Discovering Discovery Park
With appreciation for all our member management teams
Following my arrival as UKSPA Executive Director in mid-January, I have made a determined attempt to keep - each week - two days in my diary that are committed to visiting our members. My aim to see at first-hand what our members are doing and also to inform them of my own ambitions to support their work and promote their achievements. It has been exceptionally rewarding.
The first 50 days
Although not quite 50 days since I took over as the new Executive Director, I wanted to share with you some of our plans for UKSPA in the coming months.
In January we said a fond farewell to our former CEO, Paul Wright, who has steered UKSPA across sometimes turbulent waters for the past 16 years. He will be sorely missed but we wish him all the very best in his new life in rural Wales.
Looking forward to Lincoln
The next UKSPA conference is being held at the University of Lincoln and hosted by Lincoln Science and Innovation Park.
Opened in 2014, Lincoln Science & Innovation Park is the joint venture formed by the University of Lincoln and the Lincolnshire Co-op to help regenerate 30-acres of brownfield land on the edge of Lincoln’s historic city centre.
Following a competitive interview process, Jim Duvall was appointed as Executive Director of The UK Science Park Association (UKSPA, networking science and technology parks, research and innovation sites, incubators and accelerators) and took on the position on 1 February following the departure of outgoing CEO, Paul Wright.
Welsh science parks to develop a collective voice with UKSPA
It was announced at the UKSPA AGM in October that Paul Wright has decided to stand down as Chief Executive Officer of UKSPA.
He has written to UKSPA members to introduce the new team at UKSPA.
Moving on – New Year, New Challenges!

Save the Date: Thursday 25 and Friday 26 January 2018
UKSPA will be meeting in Swansea on Thursday 25 and Friday 26 January 2018. The Institute of Life Science (ILS), Swansea University Medical School are hosting the conference which will be held at the National Waterfront Museum in Swansea.
Following the retirement of the current Chief Executive, The United Kingdom Science Park Association (UKSPA) is looking to appoint an Executive Director to manage the further strategic development of the Association, and to oversee the development and delivery of a range of membership products and services to deliver our current and future agenda.
UKSPA has a vacancy for a Membership Administrator - Details below:
Working for a small, busy trade association you would assist with member communications (website/social media), research, information gathering and help plan and deliver UKSPA events and publications (including our annual membership directory).
The successful candidate will benefit from working in a role that will allow considerable flexibility to organise and deliver their own workloads and take advantage of opportunities to develop skills in office administration and membership communications.
