Turnberry has extensive experience across the UK and the US. Its portfolio includes a wide variety of development projects, with a particular focus on science and technology, sport, higher education, and large bespoke planning ventures. Turnberry has a track record of working closely with university administrators, estates and local authorities in formulating development strategies and delivering development proposals or master planning initiatives.
The company advises a range of private and public sector clients on all aspects of land-use planning and development, including project management of multi-disciplinary teams; market reports and research commissions; development of feasibility studies; scoping of development briefs; preparation of planning applications; and selection of environmental, landscape and construction teams.
Turnberry also advises on funding and joint ventures and has supported the preparation of successful funding bids to HEFCE and also to the Local and Regional Growth Funds in support of capital projects.
The company has provided consultation on the development strategy and planning of Science and Technology Parks across the UK. Turnberry has also undertaken its own research initiatives to examine the dynamics and ‘best practice’ for UK Science Park development. Our experience includes:
Turnberry is assisting the University in creating a new overarching Master Plan for Cranfield University and the Technology Park. Project associated with this plan include a new Aerospace Integration Research Centre. Turnberry created the development brief for this project, managed relationships between stakeholders, and aided the University in compiling a successful application for HEFCE funding. Turnberry has also obtained various planning permissions for phased development; negotiated funding agreements to assist with essential early-stage infrastructure; and subsequent development agreements with a development partner.
The University of Oxford:
Turnberry has worked with the University across Oxford and beyond, including the development of Begbroke Science Park, a Master Plan to consolidate the Science Area and identify future opportunities for growth, and securing outline planning permission for the master plan of the Old Road Biomedical Research Campus.
Highlands and Islands Enterprise – Inverness Campus:
Inverness Campus is a new 87-hectare university campus east of Inverness, which encompasses a range of teaching, research and commercial facilities, most notably for the University of the Highlands and Islands. Turnberry has provided wide-ranging strategic development and town planning advice since the project’s inception, including the selection and management of a design team, collaboration on the preparation of a Master Plan, preparation of a development strategy and leading and managing an extensive public consultation.
Turnberry has been closely involved with the growth of Coventry’s city-centre campus since 2007, having prepared a Development Plan, Estates Strategy and Campus Master Plan for the University’s estate. Turnberry provided strategic consultation on all of the new buildings from conception to construction. This has included a flagship Science and Health Building, intended to signify the University’s long-term vision of creating a ‘Health and Life Sciences Quadrant’ within the city centre.
