In a unique communications partnership, Universities UK (UUK) and ITN Productions are producing a news and current affairs-style programme exploring the marked effect that universities have on people's lives, and the prosperity of the UK.

'Universities: improving futures' will underline the importance and relevance of higher education, to both the individual and the economy, while giving those within universities the opportunity to tell their story and to promote the value of studying at university. The programme will also provide a platform to exchange ideas on the pertinent issues faced by the sector, as well as positioning universities as suitable partners for collaboration as part of the UK government's white paper on Industrial Strategy.

The higher education sector supports almost 1 million jobs and UK universities now generate a knock-on impact of nearly £100 billion for our economy. Yet, at times, the value of these institutions, and the benefits of studying at them, can be called in to question.  'Universities: improving futures' will look beyond those headlines to showcase the opportunities and initiatives available at the UK's universities, as the higher education environment continues to evolve.

Drawing upon ITN's 60-year heritage and expertise in storytelling, the news-style piece will be anchored by national newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky to combine key interviews and reports with sponsored editorial profiles from leading organisations.

'Universities: improving futures' will launch at Universities UK's Annual Conference on 4-6 September 2018 in Sheffield. The programme will form part of an extensive communications campaign featuring Universities UK members, industry, government, as well as relevant journalists, writers and bloggers.
